The construction industry is undergoing a major transition. The ambition to build more sustainably and circularly is growing, while our cities are still being strongly shaped by traditional construction methods and stone-based architecture. What happens when, in this context, you choose timber construction? And what opportunities and challenges does it bring with it?

In this session, AM shares hands-on practice experience with timber construction in an urban setting dominated by brick architecture. Using the Leeuwesteynpoort project in Utrecht and Euryza in Zwijndrecht, we show how timber construction can contribute to future-proof area development and what considerations come into play.

With short pitches and an in-depth discussion, we explore what is technically, urbanistically and aesthetically feasible, where the boundaries lie and which solutions work in practice. The focus here is not on obstacles, but precisely on the lessons, innovations and collaborations that help make the transition to more sustainable construction tangible.
