How do you combine the urgent shelter demand with the regular housing development agenda — and turn it into an opportunity for your city? In this session, the municipality of Almelo and BAM Wonen will show how this works in practice. In Almelo, 57 Flow homes are being delivered to accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

This means a deliberate choice was made for a different approach: rather than solving two challenges separately, the focus is on combining them. Where temporary solutions are often implemented, we are building a residential neighbourhood for the municipality of Almelo straight away, with quality, visual appeal and long-term value. After the shelter period, the homes become part of the regular housing market and will continue to contribute to the city’s housing stock. We will guide you through the choices that make this possible and how it can be applied for other municipalities.
