With the introduction of EPBD IV, the focus shifts from energy use to the total CO2 impact over the entire life cycle of a building. This raises new issues. While the ambition up to now has mainly been to design as energy efficiently as possible, designers will now need to account for the balance between minimal energy use on the one hand and the additional CO₂ emissions it entails on the other.

In this session, we will look at EPBD IV and the role Whole Life Carbon (WLC) plays within it, and how this will be implemented in the Dutch context. In addition, we will highlight what is still missing: EPBD IV only applies to new build. This is therefore also a call to action to embed WLC in the renovation challenge.

For developers, property owners, advisors and policymakers who want to build a Paris Proof future.
