Landscape architect | Owner Studio Berg

Joyce van den Berg is a landscape architect, systems innovator and founder of Studio Berg (2025). She works at the intersection of area development, public realm, underground, biodiversity and climate adaptation. Drawing on her years of experience within the Municipality of Amsterdam and complex urban projects, she now advises municipalities, ministries and public organisations on integrated spatial challenges and sustainable transitions.

Van den Berg developed the Integrated Design Method for the Public Realm (IOOR), in which subsoil and surface are designed in conjunction. Her work and publications, including BiodiverCITY – A Matter of Vital Soil, have gained national and international attention and have been featured as part of, among others, the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Seoul Biennale for Architecture and Urbanism and various international knowledge and design platforms. Her work was also recognised within the World Landscape Architecture Awards.

With Studio Berg, she is working on cities fit for the future in which soil, water, ecology, energy and quality of life are incorporated as vital systems into design and decision-making. Joyce is also a highly sought-after speaker, moderator and advisor within public and professional networks.
