Gijs Evers is an urban planner with a strong affinity for design-led research and complex inner-city projects. At the Municipality of Tilburg, he works on the Kenniskwartier: an ambitious area development around Universiteit railway station, where a post-war district is being transformed into a high-density living, working and learning environment.
For Gijs, a good plan is both conscientious and boundary-pushing. Conscientious, because it starts with the story of the place and an open dialogue with the surrounding community. Boundary-pushing, because urban planning calls for a broad perspective and long-term commitment: he links current challenges to larger societal transitions.
With a sharp eye for the essence of the task, Gijs creates room for creativity and for distinctive, people-centred designs. The sketching pen plays a central role here as a tool to explore, communicate and make ideas tangible within an open and iterative design process.
As an urban planner, Gijs sees himself as a connector and director. He believes in the added value of interdisciplinary collaboration and knows how to bring stakeholders together to achieve the best result. At the same time, he actively applies digital innovations to enrich and accelerate the planning process.
