After secondary school in Apeldoorn, Huibert moved to Delft, where he studied Applied Physics. With a specialism in geophysics, he started his career in London, where he worked for a French company on the exploration for oil—working from behind his computer, deep in the data and analyses.
After three years, his home country started to draw him back, and he made the switch to Ernst & Young Corporate Finance. There he exchanged geophysics for the world of finance. However, his technical background proved to be of great value: he contributed to business valuations and complex investment products, gaining in-depth insight into how companies are structured financially.
Yet technology continued to pull him in. After another three years, Huibert moved to Nuon, which later became part of Alliander. Here, he found his place at the intersection of technology and management. Over the more than twenty years that followed, he held various roles within the organisation.
Today, he is responsible for the Customer and Design department. In this role, he is at the front end of the production process, where network designs are developed based on developments in the outside world. Stakeholder management plays an important part in this. In recent years, the focus has been strongly on grid congestion and the transition to flexible energy systems.
Huibert lives in Amsterdam with his wife, their son and the dog. Their second son has now moved out.
