De stad is er om te wonen, te winkelen, cultuur te beleven, onderwijs te volgen én om te werken. But with all the space requirements on the table – with housing development leading the way – it increasingly seems less self-evident to make room for space-seeking businesses in urban areas. At the same time, many businesses specifically want to be located in the city: close to talent, public transport nodes, and near other companies in similar fields.

So how do cities and the real estate sector arrive at a sound and achievable trade-off between living, working, and amenities? Which working environments fit well within an area development in an urban setting? And which combinations of living and working are not only attractive on paper, but also feasible?

Mixed-use offers opportunities: to renew, enliven, and intensify areas, and to create more synergy between users. But how do you make that work in practice? What does it require from municipalities? And how do you position yourself as a professional real estate developer or real estate investor?

In this session organised by Buck Consultants International in cooperation with ElbaRec, Jordi Hubers, Senior Consultant at Buck Consultants International, will delve further into mixed-use from the working perspective. Next, 3 cities will show how they deal with this challenge:

· Municipality of Nijmegen - Winkelsteeg case
Ewald van Petersen, Area Development Manager/Project Director
· Municipality of Deventer - Haven Quarter/ROTO site case
Raymond Schuurman, Senior Policy Officer Economy
· Municipality of Almere - Pampus case
Sander Kinneging, Strategic Advisor Urban Programming

Special attention in the pitches will be given to feasibility in practice, success and failure factors, and the organisation of the process. This is followed by an interactive discussion with experts and attendees.

The session is led by Paul Bleumink, Managing Partner at Buck Consultants International.
