Ellen van Bueren is a professor of Urban Development Management at the Faculty of Architecture. In her teaching and research, she focuses on decision-making and steering of urban development. Often in collaboration with practice, she develops useful concepts, instruments, and principles for an integrated, area-oriented approach to contemporary urban challenges. She is currently working on research into governance strategies to address increasing climate risks, water scarcity in cities, and circular and regenerative urban development projects. The role of urban experiments and the use of decision support tools (including AI) are also discussed. As a professor, she is also a board member of the Master City Developer, the MSc program for professionals in area development.
