About Dr. Cees Jan Pen

Cees-Jan Pen studied social geography at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. He obtained his PhD on the thesis “What drives businesses”. After his PhD, he was a senior advisor at the consultancy DELIJN for a few years, and subsequently worked for four years in the Department of Economic Affairs of the Municipality of Zaanstad. Between 2006 and 2010, Cees-Jan was a councillor in the Municipality of Haarlem. In addition, he served as programme manager for Platform31 for seven years.rnrnCees-Jan advises on themes such as employment locations (business parks, offices and shops), urban and regional economic development, and real estate. He currently represents Fontys on the Surf-Verdus programme committee (NWO) and is an independent member of SER Noord-Brabant. He is also on the Advisory Board of VOLOP Brabant and of Brabant Partners. He also sits on the scientific board of Platform31. In addition, he is an external committee member for RLI advies. He publishes extensively and writes columns in regional media, Vastgoedmarkt and Cobouw.rnrnAs a lecturer in Sustainable Urban Transformation, Cees-Jan Pen is active in the media and involved in the region.
